UMG at the 46th World Hospital Congress

UMG presented two cutting-edge MedTech solutions at the 46th World Hospital Congress, which took place in Lisbon on October 22-27.

One of them, artificial intelligence-based inpatient fall risk prevention, was highly praised by JCI (International Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), which plans to consider such services as mandatory for JCI certification.

"United Medical Group as a JCI-accredited clinic and member of the International Hospital Federation (IHF) was invited to the Congress and presented two high-tech solutions, an AI monitoring system and EMC-Connect application.

Following the JCI Leaders Summit, the experts of this organization highly appreciated the potential benefits of monitoring for the entire healthcare system, and also noted that such services will become mandatory for the accreditation of medical institutions worldwide," said Igor Shilov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of UMG. JCI plans to introduce the next set of standards for certification of clinics in 2025-2026.

Following the JCI Leadership Summit, the organizing committee highly appreciated the AI-monitoring system, which was presented by Egor Safrygin, CDTO, VP MedTech of UMG. AI monitoring is an artificial intelligence-based predictive analytics service developed by the "Third Opinion" platform. Thanks to it, employees of medical institutions can monitor patient safety and quality of care, as well as prevent falls in hospital.

"The problem of patient falls in healthcare organizations and, in particular, during inpatient care has long been a concern for WHO experts. That is why the task of reducing the risk of falls has been included in the JCI set of standards and has become one of the six main International Patient Safety Goals. Each fall is recorded, analyzed in details and becomes a reason for continuous improvement and search of solutions to minimize risks, including the introduction of digital assistants in UMG. AI monitoring is based on identifying the algorithm of movements that could potentially create a risk of falling. Medical staff are promptly notified of patient mobility, including leaving the room for those who are contraindicated to stand up. At the same time, the AI automatically blurs the picture, leaving only the contours, which allows to fully preserve privacy", said Egor Safrygin.

Also at the International Hospital Congress as part of i-2-i Innovation Hub UMG together with NHS UK and Stanford Medicine presented the development of EMC-Connect. The EMC-Connect application was selected by an expert panel as one of 15 finalist projects to present at the IHF i-2-i Hub during the Congress.

"EMC-Connect's smart algorithm aggregates information from wearable devices — both medical devices prescribed by a doctor and other gadgets (Lumen, smart watches, fitness trackers, bracelets, cardiac monitors such as Whoop, Oura, etc.), as well as health category apps from AppStore and AppleHealth around the clock. All metrics are fed into UMG's datalake and analyzed by artificial intelligence. The doctor receives aggregated data on the patient's health parameters in dynamics and, if necessary, contacts the patient for an online consultation or prescribes certain medical tests," Egor Safrygin added.
